American Samoa Visitors Bureau Announces “Crafting Success” Workshop to Promote Traditional Arts and Economic Empowerment
PAGO PAGO, AMERICAN SAMOA — The American Samoa Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA), proudly announces its upcoming “Crafting Success” Workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the TAOA Center in Tafuna.
The “Crafting Success” Workshop—subtitled Unleashing Your Inner Artisan-Preneur—offers residents and visitors alike the opportunity to engage in hands-on sessions that preserve Samoan cultural heritage while also developing practical skills that can create new economic opportunities. The workshop was envisioned by Visitors Bureau leadership as part of an ongoing effort to combine cultural preservation with entrepreneurship.
Participants will receive foundational instruction from some of American Samoa’s renowned local artisans, many of whom represented the Territory at the 2024 FestPac. Scheduled sessions include:
-
Samoan Poly Making
-
Weaving Instruction with Cassidy Mahuka
-
Fala Weaving and Adornments
-
Wood Carving with TAOA artisans
-
Siapo Making with Regina Meredith
The workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with onsite registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. No pre-registration is required; participants simply need to provide their name and contact information upon arrival. Two one-hour sessions will be offered, allowing attendees to explore multiple art forms.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who’s ever wanted to learn more about traditional Samoan crafts and possibly turn that skill into a small business venture,” said Visitors Bureau representative Antonina Paselio. “Whether you’re an individual, a parent looking for a family-friendly activity, or a church or community group, this workshop is open to everyone.”
This event marks the first in a series of workshops planned for the coming months, as the Visitors Bureau continues to promote cultural education and local entrepreneurship throughout the summer season.
