The popular Samoan band Punialavaa will debut their latest release, “Manatua le Mananoa,” at the free community concert sponsored by the Agency for Better Living Endeavors (ABLE) and business sponsors, on Friday at the Veterans Memorial Stadium. The free concert concludes Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Mrs. Vini Peteru explained at a press conference Monday the meaning of the song’s title. Manatua means “remember.” Le mananoa refers to the loss of mana, or power. She explained that rather than use a direct, literal translation of Alzheimer’s, they searched for words that describe the experience of Alzheimer’s—forgetting one’s memories or their mana.

Mrs. Peteru said the song also pays tribute to the founders of ABLE, Afoa Moega Lutu and Mrs. Etenauga Lutu, and their children, for their efforts in promoting awareness about Alzheimer’s.

You can hear the song at the Manatua le Mananoa Aiga Concert on Friday at the Veterans Memorial Stadium.
