AG’s Office increases Immigration bond rates

The Office of the Attorney General issued notice Thursday that immigration bond rates for the sponsorship of foreigners to reside in American Samoa have been increased effective immediately.

According to the notice the increases are relative to transportation costs associated with each county.

Local immigration law requires sponsors to pay the return fare to the county of origin of the person being sponsored.

The bond rates for 88 countries are listed, which includes 33 bond rates for countries that were previously not on the Immigration bond list.

Looking at the rates for countries where most foreigners residing in the territory are from, the bond rate for Samoa increases from $147 to $325, Tonga increases from $250 to $1,025, the rate for the Philippines increases from $966 to $1,924, Fiji from $331 to $854.

For Vietnam, the bond rate jumps from $1,860 to $2,274, for South Korea the bond was $967 and now increases to $2,424, for New Zealand the bond rate jumps from $462 to $927 , for Australia the old rate was $467 and the new one is $1,084.

The bond rate for China is unchanged at $2,300.
