Renovations of the public restrooms at Utulei Beach should be completed by December, says Director of Parks and Recreation Andrew Pelesasa.

The floors are being replaced and new toilets, sinks, and baby changing stations are being installed. Two outdoor rinse stations are being added for beachgoer and swimmers.

RCT Construction is carrying out the renovations for the ARPA funded project.

Meanwhile, one of two restrooms at Pago Pago Park has been completed and is awaiting final inspection.

The next phase of development for Pago Pago Park is a new playground. Director Pelesasa says that work on the playground will begin after the playgrounds at Lions Park and Onesosopo Park are completed in December.

Future development at Pago Pago Park include multi-courts for tennis, pickleball, basketball, and volleyball. That project is funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. When completed, the Pago Pago courts will be similar to the courts a Lions Park.

As park projects continue to grow and attract more families and visitors, the Department is placing increased emphasis on public safety and security. Efforts are underway to strengthen coordination with other government agencies to secure additional support and resources for the territory’s most frequently visited parks.

The department encourages the community to help keep our parks safe, clean, and welcoming. Park users are asked to report any vandalism, theft, or unsafe activity they may observe.

Director Pelesasa said, “Our goal is for everyone — from our children to our elders — to feel safe and proud when they visit our parks. This can only be achieved when the community and government work hand in hand.”
