The head of the Athletics Division at the Department of Education, Suaesi Pooch Taase, says a final decision has not been made regarding sports for the new school year.
He said discussions were still on going and an official announcement will be issued by DOE once a final decision on sports activities for the upcoming school year is made.
Students and coaches have reported that a school sports calendar released recently shows that the only events that are planned for the 2025/2026 school year are football, Girls Softball and Girls Volleyball.
Boys Volleyball, Girls and Boys Basketball, Girls and Boys Soccer and Boys Baseball would be dropped and this is due to funding cuts.
Taase said this information is premature and it’s best to wait for the official announcement from DOE.
