Acting Governor Pulu Ae Ae Jr. says only a few employees will be retained in the ASG Office in Honolulu. He says there’s not enough funding to pay all 17 employees and the Governor’s Office is already moving to release most of the workers.
The Fiscal Year 2025 budget for the office is $1.4 million of which $793,000 goes to personnel costs.
The director has a salary of $80,000 and the deputy director’s salary is listed at $70,000.
The lowest paid employee is a liaison officer receiving a salary of $25,000, while a clerk and administrative assistant earn $30,000.
The output measures listed in the FY2025 budget for the office are:
- To provide assistance to inbound and outbound ASG departments,
- Co-ordinate the governor and Lt. governor’s transit between Hawaii and the US mainland,
- Provide general assistance to American Samoans in Hawaii and the US mainland,
- Coordinate the Samoa Heritage Initiative program in Hawaii.
Acting Governor Pulu told KHJ News that the office can function with just 3 or 4 employees.
