The Department of Health has closed down the Fagatogo Marketplace because of unsanitary conditions in the bathrooms.

This was confirmed by the Aileen Solaita, who heads the Environmental Health Division of DOH.

She said the bathrooms are filthy and were not flushing.

DOH received complaints about the unsanitary conditions of the marketplace, and an inspection team was at the marketplace Thursday morning.

Solaita said the bathrooms have to be cleaned and sanitized.

“Vendors and the public use the facilities and food is also sold at the marketplace,” she said and added that the market will remain closed until the bathrooms have been cleaned and sanitized.

In April, the marketplace was closed because it had very low water pressure and the bathrooms were not flushing.
