A tentative date of December 2nd has been set for the opening of the new Fono Building, according to the co-chairs of the Fono Committee for the project, Senator Satele Lili’o and Rep. Vailoata Amituanai Eteuati.
Senator Satele said that the committee has been checking on the project, and from what they have seen, there’s been quite a lot of progress on the construction in the span of a month. The committee is also in contact with the owner of the contractor that’s building the new home of the American Samoa Legislature, Paramount Builders.
For certain, the building won’t be ready but the Fono leaders want the final five days of the 38th Legislature to be held in the new Maota Fono, said Satele. So the committee has set Dec. 2 as a tentative date for the opening.
Rep. Vailoata agreed that much progress has been made in the last month. He said the Senate chamber is almost ready, while there’s still some work needed to complete the House side.
A local company Craig’s Joinery is building desks made from native wood ifilele, but Vailoata said the desks may not be ready in time for a December opening.
