The new High Court Building, a project which was initiated under the Lolo Lemanu administration was dedicated Wednesday morning.

The two story building was constructed by Nana’s Inc, led by President Mrs. Fiapaipai Fruean, at a total cost of $7.5 million which includes the parking lot and wall. The funding was from the American Samoa Economic Development Authority bonds 2021 Series A. Construction began in January 2022. The building includes two court rooms and conference rooms on the ground floor and one court room upstairs, along with offices.

Rev. Iasepi Ulu of the Fagatogo CCCAS offered prayers.

Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga said what he is most proud about is that local companies can successfully construct buildings of this standard and magnitude. “We have the expertise and skill in our own people,” he said. “We don’t need contractors from America.”

Chief Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr. spoke on behalf of Chief Justice Lealoa Michael Kruse, who is off island, to express the Judiciary’s appreciation to Governor Lemanu and ASG for the successful completion of what will be the new home for the High Court.

He recalled that when the old Office of Communications was vacated, Chief Justice Kruse brought up the idea of making a request to then Governor Lolo if the High Court could repair and use the building. He took the request to Lolo and the result was construction of a brand new and bigger building.

Mrs. Fiapaipai Fruean was thankful for the opportunity given to their company to carry out construction projects of this scale. She said when Nana’s company was selected she was unsure if they could do the job. She said she asked for God’s guidance and, with faith, their company has succeeded. She was thankful for the talents and skills of their children and employees who constructed the building.
