Discussions progressed in China last week for Samoa to establish a fishing port that will serve local and international fishing vessels and provide an on-site fish processing facility.

Talamua Media reports that the proposed fishing port near the Faleolo International Airport would develop the economy of Samoa not only in the fishing industry, but also by attracting other businesses to the area.

Discussions took place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre between the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao and his delegation.

The Minister visited the Shenzhen International Fisheries and Seafood Expo which provided an opportunity for dialogue between leaders from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, and representatives from Pacific Island countries.
