American Samoa’s Hazel Ipuniuesea Leo made it to the finals of the 2024 National Poetry Out Loud competition in Washington DC.
She completed all three rounds and was among the top 8 finalists for Region 3.
Unfortunately she didn’t make it to the Top 3. Still it was an impressive feat for the Junior from Iakina Adventist Academy.
Among the poems she recited was by one of Samoa’s most famous authors/poets, Albert Wendt, Stepping Stone.
