Two Request for Proposals connected to the new hospital to be built at Lions Park are being finalized before being advertised.

One is for construction of the new facility, and the other is for a management contract to operate the hospital.

The Chairman of the Steering Committee for the new hospital, Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua, says the contractor for management of the hospital could be from the government or private sector.

It’s hoped that selections for both contracts would be made during the summer.

Meanwhile, a representative of the company that’s designing the new hospital, Architects Hawaii Ltd., or AHL Group, Linda Lileikis, was in the territory earlier this month to gather input from ASG officials and provide an update on the design plans.

Motusa says instead of a 40-bed facility as originally planned, the new hospital will have 36 beds.

A major part of the work needed to be completed before construction goes underway is to lay the utilities and infrastructure. This is under the supervision of a committee comprising Public Works, ASPA, ASTCA and Department of Commerce.

Local company PIOA Consulting & Engineering Inc. was awarded the contract as construction manager for the new hospital. As of now, the contract has not been signed as terms are still being negotiated.

There are plans to hold a ground breaking for the new hospital in September.
