
A 21-year-old man from Sinamoga was hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot wound to his knee in an alleged drive-by shooting close to midnight, last Saturday evening.
Richard Kitiona was admitted to Acute 7 at Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital in Moto’otua after he was rushed to the hospital by family members.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the incident and told Samoa Observer that investigations were underway.
“We are trying to gather information from the neighbors and people around Sinamoga, where the incident happened, to see if they have any additional information about what happened,” he said.
Meanwhil,e a mother’s world had turned blank when she was told that her son had been shot.
Essa Kitiona told how they were preparing for bed when they heard the gunshot coming from the road.
“At first, we didn’t think much of it, but minutes later, I heard the boys outside saying that my son got shot. My whole world was blank, and I was shocked.”
They immediately caught a taxi and took her son to hospital.
The eldest of her three children was later discharged after emergency treatment.
“The doctor told us that it was a good thing the bullet did not hit the bone on his knee; otherwise, it would have been worse,” she said.
Police investigation continues.
