Discussions at the National Governors Association meeting that Governor Lemanu attended last week covered homeland and national security challenges, and many other topics. The dialogue, including funding sources, training, and information sharing needs to bolster security measures.
Other topics were agricultural sustainability, infrastructure development, and broadband accessibility.
Directors and officials from agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, and Department of Housing & Urban Development explored innovative solutions to enhance food security, upgrade military infrastructure, and streamline grant processes.
“Representatives from the National Telecommunications & Information Administration, Federal Communications Commission, and other agencies engaged in robust conversations on public safety, internet affordability, and connectivity programs. These discussions underscored a shared commitment to bridging the digital divide and bolstering emergency communication infrastructure in American Samoa.”
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and the Department of Interior delved into trade agreements, infrastructure projects, and economic frameworks. Participants exchanged ideas on leveraging federal resources to stimulate economic growth and enhance connectivity, positioning American Samoa as a hub of innovation and development in the Pacific region.
Governor Lemanu expressed gratitude for the invaluable insights and support provided by federal partners.
“Today’s discussions have laid a solid foundation for collaborative action,” remarked Governor Lemanu. “By working hand in hand with our federal counterparts, we are poised to address challenges head-on and unlock new opportunities for growth and prosperity in American Samoa.”
