Mrs. Eseneiaso Liu is cleared to serve on the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of American Samoa.
The Senate confirmed her by a 13-0 vote, Wednesday morning. Senator Magalei Logovii, who chaired Mrs. Liu’s confirmation hearing, said, at the start, the senate had not approved her nomination when it was first submitted. He said the Senate president had asked the governor to resubmit Mrs. Liu’s nomination as she would be an asset to the Development Bank Board.
Senator Magalei shed tears and appealed to senators to make use of a daughter of his district.
Senator Muagutitia Tauoa said Mrs. Liu has served the government for 50 years and her experience and credentials make her eminently qualified to be on the bank board. The senior senator appealed to his colleagues, “Let us make use of our mothers who are willing and able to serve.”
Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean commented that in all his years in the Fono, this was the first time he has seen Senator Magalei shed tears. He said this was a symbol of the love the Tuala-uta Senator had for children of his district.
Mrs. Liu said she was at a loss for words to express her appreciation for the confidence that senators have put in her and acknowledged, especially Senator Magalei.
Only the Senate confirms members of the DBAS Board.
