The Election Office has issued a calendar of important dates for voters and candidates for the 2024 general elections.

Election Day this year is November 5th, when voters will elect a Governor and Lt. Governor, a Representative  to the US Congress, and members of the American Samoa House of Representatives.

Voter turnout and interest in local elections increases during a gubernatorial election year. So far, no candidates have announced for the gubernatorial race but KHJ News understands there have been campaign meetings taking place at homes.

According to the Election Office calendar, the period to request outside absentee ballots started January 1st.

June 14th is when candidates can pick up nomination papers and petitions from the Election Office. The deadline for filing nomination papers for all candidates is September 3rd.

Six days after that is the deadline for any objections to be filed, and September 10 is when all candidates for the 2024 general election will be certified.

Voter registration is ongoing and the last day to register, or re-register, to vote is October 7th.
