Apia-based Talofa Airways plans to resume flights to Tonga next month, now that it’s taken delivery of a third aircraft.
Yesterday, around 5 pm, the 9-passenger Aero Commander touched down at Faleolo International Airport.
This is the same plane as the two aircraft, currently in the airline’s fleet.
One of the airline owners, Maria Westerlund-Hunter, told KHJ News yesterday the plane was flown from San Diego to Hawaii, where it stopped for two nights then continued on to Samoa with a refueling stop over in Kiribati.
At present, Talofa Airways is only flying between the two Samoa, with occasional charter flights to other islands. But Westerland Hunter says they plan to start scheduled flights to Tonga from, both, Samoa and American Samoa next month. The airline had been flying to Tonga before COVID.
At present Talofa Airways is operating inter-Samoa flights out of Faleolo Airport. Westerlund Hunter said they will not use Fagalii Airport until the runway has been extended.
