
Not a single question was asked of the Fono’s proposed Fiscal Year 2024 budget today.
After Rep. Vailoata Amituanai, Co-Chairman of the Senate and House Budget and Appropriations Committee, announced that the Senate President and House Speaker would present the Fono’s budget, he asked if there’s a motion.
Senate President Tuaolo Manaua Fruean announced that their lunch is ready and with that the hearing came to a close.
The Fono budget for the new fiscal year totals $10.1 million, up from $9.1 million for the current fiscal year.
The number of employees is 219, down from 222 for FY2023. The Fono budget is all locally funded.
The breakdown of the budget:
- $6.5 million for Salaries,
- $1.9 million for Materials and Supplies,
- $804,500 for Travel,
- $150,000 for Contractual Services,
- $125,000 for Equipment,
- $537,500 for All Others.
The Senate budget is $2.7 million for 81 employees, and the House budget is $4,051,000 for 79 positions.
The Legislative Reference Bureau budget totals $1.1 million for 24 positions, and the Legislative Financial Office budget is $1.1 million for 35 employees.
