An travel newsletter, The Travel,  describes American Samoa as  “one of the most stunning and yet overlooked American territories and a great place to really experience the South Pacific. ”

Titled “10 Great Things to do in American Samoa, The forgotten US Territory,” the article  is by Aaron Spray, a firsthand traveler who has visited more than 80 countries around the world.

The top ten things he recommends that visitors do while vacationing in American Samoa are:

  1. Visit the historic Leone Church where the first missionary John Williams landed in 1832.
  2. Visit the Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary, where visitors are greeted with tropical fish, sharks, and plenty more exotic sea life.
  3. Sample local American Samoan Food, including palusami and taro.
  4. Sunbathe on the beautiful American Samoa beaches but with permission from locals.
  5. Take pictures at the best viewpoints in American Samoa but ask permission before taking photos of people.
  6. Climb Lata Mountain the highest peak in American Samoa on the island of Ta’u, Manu’a.
  7. Visit the Manu’a islands, which the article says is sparsely populated with only a few hundred people calling it home.
  8. Explore the rich and traditional Samoan culture.
  9. Go hiking in the rainforests of American Samoa.
  10. Go scuba diving and snorkeling.
