Daycare centers remain closed for another week even though numbers of cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) appear to be leveling off.
An update provided by the Acting CEO of the LBJ Hospital, Dr. Akapusi Ledua, shows that 11 children are currently admitted with RSV symptoms, of whom 7 are needing Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or C-PAP.
Dr. Ledua says there’s still signs of RSV spreading so, at this stage, LBJ is monitoring the situation. He indicated that it’s not advisable at this stage to recommend a reopening of day care centers.
At a press conference last week, Dr. Ledua said the cases being seen at the hospital were more severe and nearly half required assistance with breathing.
Daycare centers were closed last Thursday in an effort to stop the spread of RSV, whose symptoms are like the flu, including runny nose, fever, wheezing and cough.
