Inmate escapes also costing businesses

Businesses that have been broken into by inmates on the lam from the Territorial Correctional Facility are also calling for answers from ASG, on what’s being done to stop the escapes.

Manager of a business in the Tafuna Industrial Park, which was broken into during the last inmate escape two weeks ago, said the culprit or culprits attacked their surveillance recorder and router, then discarded it in their neighbor’s trash.

The owner said, “Luckily we were able to recover them.”

The main entrance door handle and deadbolt were damaged, as was the main office door.

A steel door to protect the surveillance equipment was also damaged. A High-Definition Multimedia Interface cable also had to be replaced.

The business owner said that no cash was taken, but replacing the damaged doors and equipment costs money. He said the damages could’ve been avoided if the inmates were kept behind bars.

Up until now, there’s been no information from the Department of Corrections as to what is being done to prevent the inmates from escaping.
