Premiering in Samoa on May 30th  is the latest work by writer Sia Figiel, “O Tusitala, Tellers of Tales.”

It’s a one actor play with 18 characters which tells the story of the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, as seen through the eyes of his Samoan workers and people who were in his circle.
Figiel said a professor had approached her to do a paper on the musical influence of Polynesians and Samoans on Stevenson’s writing.
She felt that the knowledge she gained about Stevenson from several years of research should be shared with a larger audience than just academics in a paper. And her vehicle for sharing the information is the play, “O Tusitala, Tellers of Tales”.
One of the characters in the play is based on a Samoan woman who was one of the few who could put Tusitala in his place, Laulii Willis.
Willis’ character and the 17 others will be played by actor Tuiasau Uelese Petaia.

The only two showings are May 30 and June 7 Samoa time at the Blue Wave Theater, Vaivase.
