Tongi arrived to a hero’s welcome on Oahu, Tuesday. The mayor declared it Iam Tongi Day as thousands gathered to greet the singer. There was dancing on his way from the airport, a helicopter company did a lei drop, and there was a packed crowd for a free concert where he performed.

Tongi’s mom, Lillie, was grateful for the outpouring of support.
“I just feel beyond blessed. Never expected him to be this. But I’m grateful that everybody shows so much love,” she said. Iam said “It’s crazy…I love all the support!”
Tongi sang several island favorites but the one that blew the crowd away and brought some to tears was the song that kicked off his American Idol Journey, “Monsters” by James Blunt — a song he sang in tribute to his late father Rodney.
