Victim of fatal fall was a father of 8

The construction worker who died from injuries sustained in a fall in Aoa, last week, was an employee of Manu’a Development Corporation (MDC).

The 63-year-old passed away Sunday in the Intensive Care Unit of LBJ Hospital.

According to Pau Roy Ausage, Managing Director of MDC, the employee was a relative of his from Samoa, and leaves behind a wife and 8 adult children.

He fell from the top floor of a two story classroom building being built at the Olomoana Elementary School in Aoa.

Chief of Emergency Medical Services, Galumalemana Popo Avegalio, said on the morning of May 2, a call came in about an accident in Aoa where a man had fallen and was seriously injured.

An ambulance met a company truck at Laulii that was transporting the victim from Aoa and took him to the hospital.

The man had serious head injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he passed away on Sunday.

The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Office (OSHA) in Honolulu did not have a report of the on the job incident.

According to OSHA rules, any incident which involves a maiming, hospitalization or death, must be reported within 8 hours.
