The LBJ Hospital is using water from reserve tanks, and a private school in Fatumafuti has cancelled classes because there’s no water.
Chief Medical Officer at the LBJ Hospital, Dr. Joseph Shumway said they’ve had to use water from their reserve tanks as the island water supply had been off.
The Principal of SPICC in Fatumafuti announced that classes were being called off because water had been off since last night and had not been restored by 7:30, this morning.
ASPA Executive Director Wallon Young said, a main 12-inch AC water line at Avau ruptured around mid-day yesterday.
ASPA water crews were able to locate the leak and attempted repairs at 6:00PM yesterday.
He said, due to the high water pressure, crews were unable to perform full repairs.
The central water system will be shut down after 10PM tonight, so water crews can do a proper repair.
ASPA thanks the public for their kind understanding and patience.
Meanwhile, cars heading east and west hardly moved during peak traffic hours this morning, due to the repairs to the water line at Avau.
The westbound traffic was even worse late in the afternoon, as workers headed home.
