Samoa Prime Minister, Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa is among 18 Pacific Island leaders who’ve been invited to meet with US President Joe Biden, later this month in Port Moresby.

Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, James Marape has confirmed that his country will host both President Biden and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Marape said the White House has officially confirmed that President Biden would make his historic visit to the PNG capital on Monday, May 22, 2023.

President Biden will have a bilateral meeting with PM Marape as well as meet with 18 Pacific Island leaders of the Pacific Island Forum, including Prime Minister Fiamē, who will be in Port Moresby at that time for the India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Forum.

“In the Indo-Pacific conversation, P.N.G. and the Pacific cannot be ignored. With our combined forest and sea areas, we have the world’s greatest carbon sink and the biggest sea and air space on earth. We also face the greatest threat to our existence as climate change affects our lifestyles and our economies.”

Prime Minister Fiamē together with Marape were among Pacific Island leaders who last met with President Biden in Washington D.C. in September last year.
