
An administration bill is requesting $278,000 for partial settlement of court cases against ASG. The money is to come from unexpended and unobligated revenues for Fiscal Year 2023.
- $100,000 is proposed for the case of Simeonica Tuiteleleapaga and Department of Labor vs. ASG and Department of Human and Social Services.
- $90,000 for the case of Mona and Nicholas King vs. ASG.
- $20,000 in the case of Howard Dunham vs. ASG.
- $17,000 each for Lolesio Smith, Maatulimanu Maea, Simi Paepae and Togotogo Sotoa vs. ASG.
Governor Lemanu wrote the Senate President and House Speaker that the $278,000 appropriations was for the partial settlement of various legal claims against ASG and is required as these settlements meet the statutory threshold set by law.
The Governor also said the funds will settle claims brought by the US Department of Justice and the litigations against ASG in the High Court of American Samoa for the cases mentioned.
The bill arrived at the Fono, after the session had closed.
