The good news is road centerlines are being painted. The bad news is they’re not being painted correctly.
Last week, crews from Paramount Builders started marking the road centerline from Kanana fou up to Tradewinds Hotel. The work continued this week on the main road with one crew painting towards Cost-U-Less and the airport road, and another working in the opposite direction towards the golf course.
While the work is in progress, motorists have complained that there are no turning lanes at busy locations such as in front of Cost-U-Less, the Airport Way Gas Station, and the road to Happy Valley.
A mother said, “We’re already experiencing a frequency in car accidents and the road markings would lead to more. It’s a true safety hazard.”
Another driver told KHJ News, he cannot believe that no one from Public Works have seen the road markings and are not doing something to correct it. He said, another company with the right equipment had marked the turning lanes after a new road was completed several years ago; and the markings lasted a long time. He told KHJ News, “Go take a look. Parts of the centerline along the Ottoville road, which were painted last week, are already faded.”
The Tafuna resident said it seems that this is a rushed job for the Flag Day visitors, but he wished DPW would ensure that the job is done properly for safety and will be worth whatever amount is being paid the contractor.
