Ten thousand dollars was added to the donation chest of the Red Cross in American Samoa today.
The donation came from the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA), which is also the main sponsor of the centennial celebration of the local Red Cross.
The check was presented by Katie Leilua, ASTCA’s Director of Sales, to Red Cross President Vaitoa Hans Langkilde and Poe Mageo, who chairs the Centennial Celebration Committee.
ASTCA’s sponsorship includes one-thousand t-shirts to ARCAS, in celebration of their centennial active service in American Samoa. The t-shirts display ARCAS’s Century of Alofa providing assistance to the people of American Samoa in times of disaster. And will be exhibited at the Flag Day Celebrations Parade, this Saturday.
ASTCA also introduced their Text-to-Donate Campaign on March 17th, a donation platform that welcomed all ASTCA prepaid subscribers to donate $1 or more by texting the word “ALOFA” to the shortcode 999. Donations could also be made via their MyASTCA Mobile App.
ASTCA CEO, Falelimu Chuck Leota pledged to match the dollar amount attained through the Text-to-Donate platform for ARCAS.
Other means of sponsorship included handsets with managed plans to support the ARCAS Radiothons and talk shows, ASTCA’s Short Message Service (SMS) Platform, ARCAS banners and billboards displayed by the roadsides, and one-thousand hand fans to distribute to their supporters.
Through partnership, ASTCA will help the Red Cross acquire and maintain material and communication resources necessary to manage relief operations, and will also be used to improve community relationships.
