Slight drop in Basic Food Index for February

While your wallet may disagree, there’s been a 1.1% drop in the Basic Food Index for the month February.

This is attributed to lower prices of chicken legs which dropped 7.1%, eggs down 2.5%, turkey tails dropped 2.3%, fish dropped 1.5%, sausages down 1.5 %, rice dropped 1.1%, ice cream down .9% and butter down .2%.

The price of a case of chicken was $18.91 in December, then $17.92 in January, and last month it was $16.65.

For turkey tails, 1 lb. cost $2.14 in December, then $2.03 in January, and last month it dipped to $1.98.

A dozen of small sized eggs was $2.67 in December, $2.65 in January and last month it dropped to $2.58.

Basic food items whose prices increased include bread, which was $3.23 in January but was $3.26 in February; pork spare ribs was $2 in January but cost $2.04 a lb. last month; saimin was 51 cents a packet but went up to 54 cents last month; and mayonnaise which was $4.50 in January, cost $4.54 last month.

Prices of water, taro, bananas, canned tuna, sugar and corned beef did not change.
