Ituau Senator Soliai Tuipine believes it’s time for the territory to have a drug rehabilitation center to curb the escalating drug problem in the territory.

Soliai said, a rehab center is needed to remedy the addiction on drugs.

“Sending them to jail doesn’t do anything to stop the addiction. Drug users will just pick up the habit again if they don’t go through treatment,” said the Ituau Senator.

Soliai said, senators have to commit to this because the drug problem is getting out of hand.

“Nearly every village is affected by drugs, and drug use is spreading at an alarming level in schools,” he declared.

Soliai said, he’s received reports that students have put drug powder in Coca-Cola and are consuming it.

He observed that what’s happening here with drugs is the same experience in Samoa, and senators must act or the situation will be out of control.

Soliai said, the rehab center should have health professionals and chaplains to treat and counsel drug users and wean them off their addiction.
