The driver of a bus accident in Fagaloa has died in hospital from injuries he sustained over a week ago.

The bus he drove flipped over and landed on its roof, leaving the driver fighting for his life at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital at Moto’otua.

The Samoa Observer reported the unnamed driver died on Sunday night, just over a week after the accident.

The Member of Parliament for Vaa-o-Fonoti, Mauu Siaosi Puepuemai, said that he blamed the poor road conditions for the fatality, while warning local authorities of more accidents if they are not fixed.

He said, the treacherous road conditions had been a major challenge for the residents for many years.

The police were reportedly waiting to charge the driver with dangerous driving, causing injuries, after their investigation into the accident.

Asked about the aging condition of the bus, Mauu said that the fragile condition of the bus was not the problem.

He said, the real issue is the road which kept getting worse and they’re almost like water drains, especially on rainy days.
