TBAS delayed opening due to connectivity problems

The Territorial Bank of American Samoa (TBAS) did not open for business until 11:40, this morning. The bank usually opens at 9 AM.

TBAS advised us, after 9 this morning, that due to an unexpected disruption in the bank’s internet service, it was delaying the opening of its two branches—the Centennial Building and Tafuna.

All TBAS ATMs were also down due to the connectivity problem.

There were large crowds waiting outside the two branches for word on when the bank would open.

Since the banks phones were not being answered, many customers took to Facebook to ask when the two branches would open and when TBAS ATMs would resume dispensing cash.

KHJ News also received several calls and questions on messenger, including from customers who were off island and unable to get online or withdraw money at ATMs.

TBAS apologized to customers for the disruption in service.
