Seniors of Tafuna High School and Kananafou High School are eligible to apply for a new scholarship fund, which was launched today.

Ituau House Rep. Manumaua Wayne and Mrs. Lepoi Wilson, in partnership with the Christopher James Foeoletini Ledoux Foundation (The Foeoletini Foundation), today, announced the Brianna Lina Wilson Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship honors the memory of the Wilson’s daughter, Brianna Lina Wilson, who was passionate about science, math, art, and engineering. Sadly, on July 29, 2022, she passed away at that age of seventeen after a hard fight with cancer.

Brianna’s love for animals was evident at a young age, and she set a goal to one day become a veterinarian.

Brianna was a ray of light who loved poetry. One of her heartfelt poems titled “Myself,” was published in a book called “May Your Wonder Be Your Map.”

Foletin Foundation offers this scholarship to high school students who share Brianna’s love for these subjects and are pursuing a college degree in one of these fields.

Rep. Manumaua W. Wilson (Ituau District) serves as a board member for the Foeoletini Foundation.

He states, “Her memory lives on through this scholarship. We aim to inspire the next generation of doctors, scientists, and engineers by supporting students who share their enthusiasm for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) subjects. This inaugural year, we will be giving out awards to those who meet the requirements of schools that Brianna once attended, Tafuna High School and Kanana Fou High School.”

This inaugural year, The Foeoletini Foundation will provide three scholarships worth $4,000.00 each for applicants who successfully meet all requirements, and will attend a U.S. accredited four year university for a total of $12,000.00. Two scholarships will be awarded to Tafuna High School and one scholarship for Kanana Fou High School.

Students must pursue a degree in a STEAM field. And must meet the following:

  • MUST LIVE IN THE DISTRICT OF ITUAU
  • MUST ATTEND: TAFUNA HIGH SCHOOL or KANANA FOU HIGH SCHOOL
  • HAVE GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING, A GPA of 3.5 or HIGHER
  • DEMONSTRATE FINANCIAL NEED
  • SUBMIT 500-WORD ESSAY

The scholarship’s committee chairman, Olomua Fiafia Sunia, states, “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank the Honorable Manumaua and family, as well as our stakeholders and partners locally and abroad, as the Foundation finds more innovative ways to keep the youth involved.

“Our organization is committed to providing future scholarships to all high schools. Therefore, we encourage donations from individuals and corporations to support this initiative. Your contribution can help us make a difference in the lives of talented students who might not have the financial means to pursue a college degree locally and abroad.”
