
Who is Dr. Joseph Shumway, the Acting Chief Medical Officer of LBJ Hospital?
According to the doctor’s own introduction at yesterday’s press conference by the Hospital Authority Board and management: He worked in China for 3-years as chief medical officer for an 11-hospital system, and before that was deputy chief medical officer in Qatar for a 440-bed Hospital.
He said, coming here brings back childhood memories of the many people he met and worked with.
And he made this observation about the medical staff at LBJ.

According to Dr. Shumway, he heard about the job at LBJ last July and applied. The Board saw his resume and gave clear instructions to the former CEO to hire him. But, he said, it appeared that the former CEO had a different direction than the Board’s.

Dr. Shumway said, it was only in January after Vice Chair, Dr. Anderson stepped in and provided what he had requested in writing that the process of getting him here started to move, and he arrived last week.
With regards to the Acting CEO Dr. Akapusi Ledua, senior staffers at LBJ indicate that he may be joining his family in Alaska, where he has been offered a residency. KHJ News asked Dr. Ledua about this at yesterday’s press conference…
