The territory can look forward to a grand Flag Day celebration, if plans by the administration pan out.

Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs Tauese Vaa Sunia presented an outline at the first cabinet meeting for this year, held Monday.

Basically, the Flag Day program that was planned for last year, but was called off due to COVID, will be carried out in April.

It will be a two-day celebration on April 17 and 18 and will include a fautasi race, traditional entertainment, parade and flag raising ceremony. A church service is also on the program.

A group will be invited from Samoa, and the Samoa talks are to be held just before Flag Day.

Departing from the usual schedule, its planned that traditional entertainment will be held in the evening on the two days.

Church groups, which were to entertain last year, get to perform this year: Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, Methodist and Catholics.

The Committee is enquiring if the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints wants to perform. Also being considered is a group from StarKist Samoa which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Activities being planned for the week, preceding Flag Day, include the Arts Council Flag Day program, a Farm Fair and Trade Fair. Tauese said, there will also be a marching band exhibition and parade similar to the Rose Parade.
