A former ANZ Bank branch manager allegedly set up fake loan applications, which she approved and later withdrew for her personal use.

38-year-old Seira Malifa of Nu’u-fou and Safotu appeared in the Supreme Court last Monday, accused of theft of SAT$80,000 in cash.

Samoa Observer reports Prosecutor and Attorney General’s Office lawyer, Fuifui Ioane sought an adjournment of the matter to finalize charges.

Supreme Court Justice, Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma granted the adjournment until next Monday, 19 December.

Police said, the matter was brought to their attention through a complaint letter from ANZ management.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti, said that there was enough evidence to press charges of theft as a servant against the former senior bank employee.

She added that they have not been informed of any other employee involved in the same offending and the total amount embezzled remains at $80,000.
