It’s become a common pattern — a domestic violence incident leads to drug charges on the alleged attacker.
During a traffic stop, last month, police found drugs on the driver and when they arrested him, they found him to be a husband and father who is accused of assaulting his wife over suspicions that she was having an affair.
Illegal drugs were found in the 39-year-old defendant’s possession when police apprehended him.
The government claims that the suspect allegedly went to Vaitogi around 11:45, to pick up his wife who was spending the night with her parents.
This was after he had called her up asking why a bus driver came to their house looking for her.
She denied knowing a bus driver.
On their way home, the man threatened to hurt his wife. When their car came to a stop because of a flat tire, the victim ran and stopped a young couple’s car.
Police were contacted and the victim was taken to the Tafuna Police Substation for questioning. Its not clear why the defendant wasn’t arrested at that time.
A week later, the defendant was pulled over for a traffic violation and was identified as the man who had threatened to hurt his wife.
During a pat down, officers discovered two glass pipes containing a white crystalline substance inside the defendant’s pants.
Officers also discovered a small stamp sized baggie containing a green leafy substance. The defendant refused to make a statement.
The defendant is charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine (meth) and unlawful possession of marijuana, both unclassified felonies.
The court has changed the defendant’s bail from $20,000 to no bail, after discovering his illegal immigration status.
