Late paychecks for some in ASDOE

Some employees of the Department of Education (DOE), mainly teachers, are not
getting their direct deposits at midnight tonight like the rest of ASG. And
those receiving paper checks will not be getting them on Monday, either.

A staffer in the Personnel Division of DOE explained that they are inputting
data on years of service for their employees and by the time the data for
some employees were in the system, the new payroll had already been
processed.

According to the staffer, about 50 employees are affected and they have been
notified about the delay.

An email, which was sent to school principals said, “We humbly ask for your
assistance in informing your principals, school administrators to inform their
teachers. Those who normally get their pay through direct deposit, will not get it this
weekend. Those who get a paper check on pay day, will not get it on
Monday.”

According to the staffer of the DOE Personnel Division, the input of years of
service for their employees is in line with Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga’s
desire to tie salaries of educators to years of service. That way an employee who is new, isn’t paid more than a long serving employee.

Asked when the affected personnel will receive their paychecks, the DOE staffer said,
“Likely, next Tuesday.”
