Jobs  for 15 Samoan sailors have been offered by KiwiRail Company of New Zealand, to work on the inter-island ferries between the North and South islands.

Talamua Online reports that more work opportunities have now opened up for Samoan sailors, after the COVID-19 outbreak caused job shortages worldwide.

Early this month, seven sailors left the country to work on MSC Cruise ships.

After nearly two years of no job openings for the sailors, Samoa Shipping Services has started to receive requests for sailors to work, mainly in Europe.

In May, this year, employment programs for females resumed with one opportunity granted to a female seafarer of Manono Island, Mimisa Alaivaa, who is currently working on the MSC Poesia.
