Traditional Samoan tattooists have continued to look at ways to improve health safety precautions in the practice of their art.

Newsline Samoa reports— a two-day workshop this week, in Apia, saw health officials sharing with tattooists on means to improve prevention.

The workshop is one of the regular workshops organized with the Ministry of Health officials, to brush up on health protection and introduce new measures.

Concern was raised that some tattooists, who are not registered with the tattooists association and MOH, are not keeping to accepted safety practices.

Health authorities and local tattooists have worked together for many years now, to prevent transmission of diseases which took on heightened awareness with the advent of AIDS and other communicable diseases.

The coronavirus pandemic is now a major concern.

Traditional methods and utensils of old (that continues to be used and practiced), must always come under review to ensure safety standards are upgraded and maintained.
