The Department of Health has given the Department of Public Safety, ten days to move out of the present Tafuna substation before they close the building—due to a rat infestation.

Deputy Commissioner Terry Letuli explained that DOH inspected the station on Friday and determined that the building was a health hazard due to rats.

The Tafuna substation currently houses the Patrol Division which will now move into the section of the Office of Motor Vehicles, used for training. Other personnel will move into the adjoining building, in the section occupied by the vehicle inspections office.

Letuli says, they are awaiting a decision by the Commissioner of Public Safety, Lefiti Pese, regarding what to do with the existing substation; whether to renovate it or build a completely new building.

“It all takes money,” he said. “Right now, we don’t have available funds but the Commissioner will consult the Governor about what to do.”

Letuli says that they have begun moving and should be set up in the new location before the end of the week.
