Excavation work on the mountain side in the upper Pago Pago area, on the road going to Fagasa, resulted in an outage of the village water supply to several families living in the area.
Most households living past the old Kava Cup site, drink from the village water supply which was apparently disconnected by the excavation.
Residents said that the work started over the weekend. When they contacted Public Works and the Department of Commerce, these agencies said that there was no road project permitted in this area.
One family reported, “We have had no water for a few days now and now the water is dirty. Paramount has been digging the mountain, which now stops village water. “
When the family contacted ASPA, they were told that ASPA doesn’t have the authority to stop the excavation.
High Chief Pulu Ae Ae Jr. confirmed that the water supply was disconnected after the excavation started. He said, the water has since been restored but now it’s all dirty. He too has tried to find out more information about the excavation but hasn’t been successful.
Residents said that according to crews at the site this is for a new road in the mountains to connect with the Western District.
