Residents of parts of Tuala-uta are enjoying smooth roads in their neighborhoods with a series of road improvement projects in the last few months.

For example, the road from the Turtle and Shark site up the hill to private residences, roads behind the golf course, upgraded roads in Pavaiai, paved roads to Fatuoaiga and Hope House, as well as Onevai road in Tafuna,

KHJ News requested information about the contractors for the various road projects from the Director of Public Works, Faleosina Voigt, several weeks ago but we never received a response. We asked for the funding source and whether any bidding was done for the various road jobs.

Representative Larry Sanitoa sent a letter of thanks to Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, conveying the appreciation and gratitude of Tuaoa-uta District leaders, residents and motorists of the numerous road improvement projects throughout the district.

In the same letter, Sanitoa drew attention to some of the problem roads and infrastructure that need to be addressed.

These include a road in Mapusaga Fou, where Tuinei and Matautia families reside.

Sanitoa said, the residents have been relentless in asking ASG to fix their old unsafe bridge but DPS was unable to fix it due to lack of funding.

Another needed project is installation of a drainage system to drain the water runoff from the Aoloau Road to the Mapusaga Fou stream, as well as flooding hot spots at Kokoland and the Naumati area.

A long awaited job, which will get underway next week, is fixing the drainage for the Hope house road.
