When members of the UH Cohort 35 presented their latest donation of refreshments for LBJ Hospital staff last Friday, they were handed a certificate of appreciation.
Since April, the group of educators has been presenting refreshments for the LBJ Hospital staff working afterhours when the hospital cafeteria and stores are not opened. Members of the group donate out-of-pocket to buy cases of snacks, water and other food items.
LBJ Tropical Medical Center CEO, Moefa’auo William Emmsley, accepted the donation, thanked the group for their generosity and selfless community service and presented a certificate of appreciation for the University of Hawaii Manoa College of Education Cohort 35.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Henipira Taumalatou Faumuina said, “We are truly blessed and honored to accept this certificate of appreciation. Our service project is a great way to engage in community support and show appreciation for our medical personnel who are working around the clock to provide vital medical care for our community, and lead in this fight against COVID.”
“We will share this phenomenal experience with our students in the classroom to be and become great citizens of our community.”
The group comprises teacher-candidates of the University of Hawaii College of Education B.Ed. program (Cohort 35) and their service project is done in partnership with the American Samoa Department of Education’s Territorial Teacher Training Program.
Faumuina acknowledged the kind assistance and support of Director Dr. Kuulei Serna, of the UH College of Education-Elementary Education, ASDOE Director Talauega Dr. Samasoni Asaeli, UH Cohort (TTTP) Project Managers Mrs. Laura Laolagi and Mrs. Ivy Yeung, and UH Coordinators Ron Turituri, Sarah Tuiolemotu, and Mene Taua’a.
