Man in jail for beating wife after she questions him about affair

A man is being held on bail of $30,000 on charges of second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Samoa News reports that the defendant is accused of assaulting his wife and threatening to kill her and their children.

Police reports that the victim contacted the Tafuna Police sub-station around 10:30pm on March 25th, 2022, saying her husband was beating her and his sister up and he was also shouting profanities at their Iliili home.

Several officers responded to the call for help and discovered the defendant sitting in front of their residence holding a beer can.

The victim told police she had confronted her husband, who had been drinking since 5pm, about an alleged affair he was having with another woman and he got angry and started shouting swearing.

He also started to punch her with his fists several times until she lost consciousness and passed out.

When she came to, he dragged her outside and continued beating her. When his sister came to help, he turned on her too.

The victim managed to get away and got her two children and ran to the kitchen to wait until the police arrived.

We are not naming the defendant to protect the victim’s identity.
