One of the complaints that’s surfaced since the swabbing of travelers to American Samoa switched to Capture Diagnostics is that the travelers themselves do their own swabs.

Lawmakers have quoted travelers saying that some people do not do the swabs correctly. They do not put the swabs deep into their nostrils as is done by medical personnel.

Therefore the swab results are not accurate.

Another complaint has been the lack of crowd control at the testing site of the company at the Alamoana Center.

At last week’s hearing of the House Health Committee on the TalofaPass system, Vice Speaker Fetu Fetui said it’s his belief that the system and the below par testing by Capture Diagnostics is how the virus got here.

Sandra King Young, Director of Medicaid explained that the company that the territory was using to swab travelers who were quarantined by the government at Honolulu hotels, could not produce test results rapidly.

She said Capture Diagnostics was able to give instant results. She gave details about the company at the hearing.
