Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday the start of the 40 days of Lent.
While Code Red restrictions have banned church services, local churches will observe this special season for Christians with online services.
For Catholics, Bishop Peter Brown has announced that an Ash Wednesday Mass will be streamed on the Diocese of Samoa Pago Pago FaceBook Page at 6am for Samoan and 730 for English.
During the Mass, each family will have their own distribution of the ashes..
Families are instructed to burn the palm leaves from last year’s Palm Sunday services and use them tomorrow. If not ash from any burnt branch will do.
After the Gospel, the priest will give families an opportunity to make the sign of the cross on each other’s forehead saying the words: ‘You are dust and to dust you will return’.
Bishop Brown encouraged families that before Ash Wednesday tomorrow to gather and explain the meaning of Lent and the traditions of prayer, penance and fasting.
