Bishop Peter Brown has urged people of the Diocese of Samoa-Pago Pago to “please care for each other” at this time of the community spread of Covid-19. He says, “It’s the only way we can beat this.”

In a message yesterday, Bishop Brown said, “The reality of this pandemic has reached our beautiful American Samoa. Like many other countries, it seems we learn little. The sister of Omicron is here: fear and panic.”

Quoting from the Bible readings of this past Sunday he said, “It seems Jesus was telling us something. Like He had a premonition. He tells us its a blessing to be poor, hungry or hated. You are not a loser to turn the other cheek. Then even more challenging, He says ‘love your enemies’. These are not optional. They are the values of the Kingdom of God.”

The church leader continues, “The New Testament calls for a new attitude. Get your hands dirty! Be with those around you now! Don’t selfishly hoard and abuse those around you.”

According to Bishop Brown, “Our Government will do their best to look after us. But if ever there was a time when all of us had to work together it is now. Not only getting vaccinated, wearing your mask etc. But also with an open heart, more than you have ever had to do before, look out for your neighbor. Live the gospel!”

His message concludes, “The imagine of Lazarus and the Rich man is in my mind. He stepped over the crippled Lazarus his neighbor every morning but didn’t see him. Please can you see yours?”
