Utulei residents, Mrs Etenauga Lutu and granddaughter Yasminna Sanchez, are Super Bowl celebrities after an ad they appeared in was aired during the championship battle between the LA Rams and Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday.

The Google ad featured new phone camera technology that improves image quality when taking photos of darker skin tones in low light.

Yasminna says, “I was scouted to do a photoshoot for Google (that I signed an Non Disclosure Form for) in which they asked me to also bring my grandma if I had one. I gladly brought her and was delighted when she was excited about the random opportunity. “

The Samoana High School graduate now attending University of California, as an Diego said a few days after the shoot she received an email from someone from a different agency “”…and they attached pictures from the shoot asking if they can use the pictures for an ad. “

She continued,  “I was at work when they called me and when I told them I had already filled out the paperwork for the other shoot they told me, “No, this is completely different. We love those shots. You’re going to be in a Super Bowl commercial voiced over by Lizzo.”

Her reaction, “I was so surprised and nervous I was pacing behind the counter at the restaurant I work at.”

For the actual photo shoot Yasminna and her grandma arrived late.

“We were 15 minutes late because of traffic and I thought I was just going to be an extra or something anyway but when I finally arrived I had my own hair, wardrobe, and makeup waiting for me. It was like in the movies where after every shot there are people who go and review the photos while others come and touch up my makeup and hair. “

And what was her grandmother doing.

“My grandma got to sit back and play Candy Crush while waiting for me and our shots together which I thought was funny. I know it was fun for her to watch and when they finally brought her in she was very enthusiastic about everything.”

Yasminna said she loved doing the Google ad with her grandma.

“I love that I got to have that experience with her…”. The food wasn’t bad either. “The churros they had at the food bar were really good too and I had to resist the urge to take home an aiga basket in front of all the palagi people. I remember seeing everyone being done eating after 10 minutes and I was like “Oh okay, so I guess we’re not going for seconds then?”.
